Default Any cigar bars in Times Square? - February 23, 2011, 12:23 AM

Going to be in NY and I'm looking for a place to have a cigar at night. Any good places?

One good place is D.P. Cigars (Digna Polanco). It still has a lounge area and carries decent, house-brand Dominicans only. Located 265 West 30th Street; about one block south of Penn Station.

Behind Carnegie Hall, a short walk from Times Square, is Carnegie Club... marvelous ambience, great spirits selection, albeit pricey, and good cigars. Merchants is a bit farther.

Carnegie Club: W 56th two streets off Broadway...

NOTHING beats a nice time smoking a CIGAR!

Merchants is a lot further away and lacks much in ambiance. If you are going to consider Merchants, you might as well also look at Club Mac. But both are far from Times Square. CC is much nicer, but be prepared for cutting charges and expensive drinks. Even so, the atmosphere at the CC is quite nice. Attractive waitresses there, too.

Just...make sure you do anything you can to get out of Times Square. That's really the key to this whole operation.

I was under the impression that you couldn't. Nice to see I was wrong.

TS is very largely cleaned up, but it's still the most annoying place in NYC. Tourists acting like jackasses everywhere...overly crowded...Wayne Gretzky impersonators...

Unless I'm going to see a show, I avoid it like the plague.

Heading to NY for business tomorrow - Wrote down the suggestions here but where in public can I smoke in NY? I will be staying at 38th street and would like somewhere i can walk to after dinner and enjoy a cigar.

Probably a little cold to smoke outdoors right now. Here's a list of the indoor places I know of (some already mentioned in this thread):

- Havana Dreams (Queens)
- Velvet Cigar Lounge (East Village, BYOB?)
- Circe Tabac (Broome & 6th Ave)
- Merchants East (62nd & 1st)
- Carnegie Club (56th & 7th)
- Club Mac (63rd & Madison)
- Florio's (Little Italy)
- Lex Bar and Books (72nd & Lex)
- Hudson Bar and Books (Hudson & 13th St)
- Beekman Bar and Books (50th & 1st)

I haven't been to Florio's since smoking was banned in the bar, but I hear there is a smoking room upstairs where you can take your drink.

My company has an apartment in Executive Plaza (150 W. 51st Street, basically 51st and 7th).
There's a rooftop deck with a couple lounge chairs and 2 tables. I smoked up there. If you're feeling adventurous, just walk in and ask them how to get to it. I forget off the top of my head as I haven't been there enough to remember. Don't tell them you're not a resident
Nice views of the city, TS, CP, etc..
I actually met the 1st base coach of the Yankees up there smokin. He stays in the building.

There's actually more choices now than a few years ago. The weather has been pretty mild this winter so a walk on a decent day is an option too.
