Default Opus X Taurus the Bull - October 5, 2011, 09:30 AM

I get most of my cigars from forums members who I have come to trust and I have developed some good friendships, so I have no beefs with anyone, OK??

A member here sent me a beautiful bomb of cigars. Generous as can be. Thank you very much. One item in it was an Opus X Taurus the Bull, apparently one of 5 he bought here July 2010. A bit ambitious for me so I took it to my local cigar shop.

Note Taurus has no secondary label (apparently some don't, fine).

A few puffs in he says, no way. Burns terrible, does not smoke like an Opus (he has a shelf full) and where is second band. FAKE.

I look like an idiot.

Take off band... double glued.

Where did I get it, yadda yadda yadda.

Well, I can tell you it came from here and there are plenty more where it came from.

Who sold it or who sent it?

Who sent the bomb is not important, as we have both sent the info to Moki and confirmed the cigar is crap

Who sold it? Not sure.

I guess it could be possible as it's a pretty straightforward shape. It be one thing if someone was producing counterfeit Sammy Sosa bats. But Brad is right, there are legitimate Taurus the Bulls out there.

Why would someone send you a fake Taurus the Bull along with the other apparently real primo cigars? How can you tell the band is double glued? I sure can't. I've never smoked Taurs the Bull but would assume it is stronger than regular Opus and hence why it may have tasted different. Who is your local cigar shop?

The sender did not know it was fake. Look at the band. It has glue inside the label. It should be perfectly clean. My dealer is amazing and an authorized Habanos guy in Toronto. The other cigars, Davidoff's. Are fine.

No issues there IMO.

So what information are you seeking or looking to provide by presenting this?

Gotcha. The person who bombed you doesn't know the person he bought these from?

moki, what is your opinion on these?

The person who sent them does know the person bought from. But probably waiting to confirm "fakeness" from people who know limited opus better than a Canadian retailer who primarily deals in cubans before outting them. That would be my guess anyway.

We know who sent them, bit hard to prove they knowingly sold fakes.
Search opus Taurus for sale here on CF. But what proof is that??

All I know is I still have the semi burnt stick and band. And it is a piece of crap.

Makes sense. This all seems a little confusing, but that could just be me. I would have thought the "fakeness" would have been confirmed by moki or someone else on CF before the thread was started.

I dunno yet. I believe these were in theory purchased at the Fuente event at Holts recently. Anyone who attended, can you confirm that these Taurus the Bull cigars were on sale there?

The only thing that really concerns me about them is the bands being double-glued, that's not normal. I'd really have to see one in person to say anything more though.

These were purchased here on CF in 2010 in July.
I have been speaking at length with Moki about this since we smoked the Taurus and appreciate his time and knowledge.

According to Moki, high end cigars can have smoke issues and the only real question is the double glue... not according to the Chez Tabac, the shop where we smoked the Taurus, where they went nuts over the fakery.

Thank you for your time.

I did not just state this at the beginning because I tried to be as delicate about this as I can. I am trying not to just blab out unfounded info like I usually do.

I tried to let you use your search function to come to the conclusion I did.

Like no one has had an Opus that burns and tastes like crap before? Seriously, that's no basis for saying fake. I hope you resolve this to your satisfaction, but I doubt that will happen.

Do they deal a lot in opus or mainly Cuban?

They have an entire shelf of all Opus X, including the ones in individual boxes, tins and many other AF cigars. This was mentioned earlier. Why is the credibility of my dealer in question and not this precious cigar sold by one of your members with the double glued label???

It doesn't happen often, but it can happen with any cigar from any manufacturer. I know someone who had to toss out an entire box of Dunhill Estupendos because they were all plugged.

I don't really have enough data to say anything about these cigars; I'd probably need to see one in person. The only thing that concerns me is the bands being double-glued... knowing how Fuente puts these on makes it seem unlikely.

If bands are re-applied, typically the cellophone isn't pristine, and finding Opus X printed cello that exactly matches the girth and length of the Taurus the Bull cigars seems difficult (but not impossible).

CB, both would be in question, I was just asking the question.

Thank you.

I have had enough for one day... I turned 50 today and we old ladies need alcohol and cigars.

This a great story and to tell you the truth, what fuel my energy on this one was WHO sold the cigars in July 2010 and the possibility that the community my benefit from my quest.

Since the case cannot be resolved, it will go in the "Cold Case" file.

Enjoy your smokes, gentlemen and thank you for trying to help figure this out.

REALLY!

It looks like your quest has been to throw a Cf member under the bus from the start. If that is the case, be done with it already. I have smoked plenty of cigars that tasted like crap, burned like shit and well over $20.00. It's a natural product made by human hands, shit happens.

LOL if there was a CF (or OLH) member that was going to be thrown under a bus, I hear it could be YOU, family guy.

They were sold originally by X-Man aka Avioli, which is I think where the suspicions are coming from.

I'm not aware of him ever selling fake cigars though, and I think it's way too soon to jump to the conclusion that there is something wrong with these cigars.

I'd be really interested if she'd want to send me one of the cigars / bands though.

Time for a blind taste test. You have shown that peoples perceptions will effect there tastes. IMO she has been tainted by what has been going on with him. I have had many poor glue jobs on regular production opus x. I Am not sticking up for the guy. This information should have been provided from the start. Would have made things a lot easier to understand.

I will say he took a lot of product out of Holt's that Friday. He isn't know for selling fakes, just making some bucks.

.....I got an idea, buy any real Opus that you can buy anywhere, smoke it, and it tastes the same as "The Bull" Again, virtually all the SAME wrapper, binder, and filler...for the most part.

The cigar in question was acquired in July 2010, which meant it came from last year's Fuente Event at Holts.

I tried and tried to ask you guys to search CF for Taurus the Bull for sale here, July 2010. I did not want to jab a fellow member but Moki said it.

So there you go.

Now that we are talking about that list , I realized I received the DC Lancero too! So I wanted to check the band on that one before sending to Moki for his opinion...

Yikes.

Can't even get it past the second glue.

What is meant by "double glued"? From that picture I'm confused by how you are using that phrase?

Look, whoever is telling you that these bands have been reglued is a dumbass plain and simple. I don't see how you are so sure that these have been reglued. In my experience with Fuente cigars the bands don't just pop off like most habanos. They are glued this way to prevent reuse/conterfeiting.

Guess he's inferring that the bands were taken off the original cigar, and then glued back on.

Anyway, too much frgn drama for me, and this CanadianBeaver dude seems like a drama queen.

I received two of these Opus X Taurus the Bull cigars from ShortStory... these cigars are definitely real, imo.

I should also add the I did not attempt to slide the bands off to see if they were "double glued" because I didn't want to damage the cigars.

Hey that is great news. I am glad. So the one we had I was a dud. It happens.

Apologies x 100 to x-man/avioli and the board for making a fuss. But in this world of expensive cigars and current situation I had our best interest at heart.

Honestly.

And this means Moki, you have a real DC Lancero in the mail you luck bugger.

Enjoy!!!

It happens.

I bought a box of "cuban Cohiba esplendito's" once. The cigars were awesome, they tasted great, the price was cheap, yada, yada. I post about these cigars, and instantly get told they were fake. I threw a bitch fit! They had the proper code on the bottom, the bands were perfectly in line. I compared just about everything imaginable from the information I could find on the web. Harris told me something that made me feel like a total douche...... "Cohiba does not make a glass top box!"

I still feel silly about the whole thing. The cigars were tasty though. I kept them around. I paid $85 for a box of 25, not a bad deal, and like I said, the cigars were pretty good.

Don't beat yourself up too bad canadianbeaver, at least you can get the real stuff, at a real habanos store. Even though your sin tax up there is ridicules.

Obviously this is an elaborate well thought out plot to undermine the opus stockpile by the same stupid dickless brain dead sons of bitches who were peddling fake Dunhills.
